In view of the damage to banking facilities, the need to ensure the safety of customers and staff, as well as ongoing traffic conditions, some bank branches in various districts in Hong Kong were closed today and services were suspended.
The Hong Kong Association of Banks (HKAB) expresses regret over the situation, and sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience caused to customers.
The HKAB also condemns the violent acts across the city, which have caused serious damage to some bank branches and ATMs.
The banking industry is committed to providing convenient and fast banking services to our customers. Business contingency plans are in place to repair damaged facilities and resume services as soon as possible. The HKAB reiterates that the banking system in Hong Kong is robust with ample liquidity, and the market is operating normally.
The HKAB would like to see an end to all violent acts and hopes that social order will be restored quickly following the introduction of the Prohibition on Face Covering Regulation.
