The Hong Kong Association of Banks launches the “Credit Card Transaction Protection - What You Need to Know” video to enhance public education and raise awareness of credit card fraud prevention
(23rd November 2023) The Hong Kong Association of Banks (“HKAB”) today launched a promotional video titled “Credit Card Transaction Protection - What You Need to Know” to raise public awareness of credit card fraud prevention. Artist Ivana Wong, portrayed as a smart credit card user in the video, reminds the public to exercise caution in protecting personal information during credit card transactions. She highlights the importance of refraining from clicking on links in suspicious messages, staying vigilant for notifications from banks, and promptly reporting any suspicious transactions to banks and the police.
The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (“HKMA”) welcomes the launch of the publicity campaign by the HKAB. Arthur Yuen, Deputy Chief Executive of the HKMA, said, “Consumer education plays a vital role in combating credit card frauds and the HKMA appreciates the HKAB for conducting a series of relevant work to strengthen consumer protection. This publicity campaign reinforces the joint efforts of the HKMA and the HKAB on reminding the public to protect their personal and card information at all times, and further enhancing their awareness of preventing credit card frauds. ”
Sun Yu, Chairman of the HKAB, said, “The HKAB is committed to safeguarding the protection of customers’ personal information and ensuring the security of credit card transactions. We also actively promote the industry-wide implementation of credit card security measures. Through the release of the ‘Credit Card Transaction Protection – What You Need to Know’ video, the HKAB continues to bolster its promotional and educational efforts in line with the HKMA’s slogan ‘Beware of Fraudulent Links’, in order to raise public awareness of fraud prevention and remind individuals to safeguard their personal and card information. Additionally, the HKAB has engaged member banks to share experiences in handling fraud cases and explore the application of technology to further enhance credit card protection. By working together with all stakeholders, we aim to effectively combat credit card fraud.”
The HKAB’s “Credit Card Transaction Protection – What You Need to Know” video premiered on television today (23rd November). It will also be published on the HKAB’s website, YouTube channel, and Facebook page. Furthermore, member banks’ branches and their social media platforms will feature the promotional video.
In addition, the HKAB will be launching a series of offline promotions, which include poster displays and giveaways. This initiative aims to further enhance public awareness of fraud prevention, such as encouraging the public to pay attention to bank alert messages, as well as reviewing transaction details with caution before confirming them.The relevant promotions will be launched soon.
