Bank of Thailand, Hong Kong Monetary Authority and Chinese Embassy officials speak at the event.

An overseas delegation of the Hong Kong Association of Banks (“HKAB”) visited Bangkok on Monday (29 January 2024) and hosted a successful half-day Thailand Business Forum, which attracted close to 130 banking professionals from both markets to join.

Dr Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput, Governor of the Bank of Thailand, Mr Eddie Yue, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and Ms Zhang Xiaoxiao, Counsellor of Economic & Commercial Office, the Embassy of People’s Republic of China in the Kingdom of Thailand, addressed the audience and expressed their support to deepening mutually beneficial cooperation.

In addition, HKAB member banks hosted several panel discussions focused on opportunities arising from Hong Kong-Thailand financial collaboration, Hong Kong's capital and derivatives markets, as well as mainland China and Hong Kong investment opportunities for Thai investors.

At the event, Ms Luanne Lim, Chairman of the HKAB said, “As the international capital and business hub for China and the rest of the world, Hong Kong benefits from strong policy support and maintains extensive global connections. With its unique "One Country Two Systems" policy, Hong Kong is uniquely positioned to facilitate tripartite cooperation among businesses from mainland China, Thailand and Hong Kong, fostering collaboration in capital raising and multilateral cooperation.”

The Association has also convened productive and insightful meetings with the Thai Bankers' Association and the Association of International Banks to discuss various topics of common interest, including cross-border business connection, technological innovation, sustainability and customer protection.  This collaboration effort reflects the commitment of the associations to foster in-depth dialogue, share local experience and promote the collective advancement of the regional banking development.

This is HKAB’s first overseas delegation in 2024 and its first visit to Thailand since the outbreak of COVID in 2019.
