The Hong Kong Association of Banks Holds Annual Distinguished Speakers Luncheon Exploring the Future of Hong Kong’s Banking Industry
The Hong Kong Association of Banks (HKAB) today held its annual Distinguished Speakers Luncheon. The Honourable John Lee, the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, delivered the keynote address and shared his insights with more than 250 industry representatives.
The luncheon also featured a panel discussion entitled “Hong Kong Banking Towards 2030: Seizing New Opportunities and Shaping the Future Financial Ecosystem”, with Mr Eddie Yue, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, and Ms Julia Leung, Chief Executive Officer of the Securities and Futures Commission, as panel speakers. They shared valuable insights on a range of topics, including deepening the international use of the Renminbi, supporting enterprises in their global expansion, and the application of artificial intelligence in the financial sector, as they explored the future of Hong Kong’s banking industry.
Mr Sun Yu, Chairman of the Hong Kong Association of Banks and Vice Chairman and Chief Executive of Bank of China (Hong Kong), said, “As the global financial landscape transforms, international investors increasingly value Hong Kong’s enduring strengths —stability, connectivity, and our country’s unwavering support. Against this backdrop, HKAB and the banking industry continue to seize new opportunities by deepening engagement with emerging markets while remaining steadfast in supporting the real economy, particularly through efforts to facilitate the accelerated development of the Northern Metropolis and foster the transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises. At the same time, HKAB remains committed to fulfilling its social responsibilities through anti-fraud education and other initiatives that meet the needs of the community. In an uncertain world, our best response is to stay focused, build on our strengths, and shape our future. As the HKSAR Government formulates Hong Kong’s first Five-Year Plan, HKAB is also actively preparing the banking sector for the future and working with the industry to write the next chapter of Hong Kong’s financial success story.”
In addition, HKAB submitted the Hong Kong Banking 2030 Report, jointly prepared with Deloitte, to the HKSAR Government, providing recommendations on advancing the development of the banking industry and supporting Hong Kong in consolidating and strengthening its position as an international financial centre.
